On a lighter note and certainly less expensive, heading out tonight to see Umphrey's McGee at the Fillmore here in Denver tonight. Tickets are a whopping $25.00. I know that some of you all may have trouble negotiating your walkers around the venues they play, but, do yourself a favor and catch one of their shows while they are still "cheap". They performed 114 shows last year so chances are they will be in a city near you. As far as The Dead go, this concert run is taking on a very negative almost grim vibe and it is self inflicted. I have tickets but at this juncture I wish I would have taken the money I spent on tickets, around $220.00, and donated to a charity since they are suffering severely from diminishing contributions due to the economy.
If I would have known about all the VIP ticket offings going on I would not have supported this tour. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth like biting into moldy bread. Do The Dead have a new management group handling this tour? Feels like it. Sadly, they should have taken a page out of John Elway's playbook and quit after the summer 2004 tour which is as good as they where going to get as The Dead. To paraphrase David Byrne, get yourself out of your barkolounger, shut off "Desperate Housewives" and go out and see some new music tonight, even if it means having some drunk 20 year old puking on your Cole Haan shoes.
